Editorial Reviews:

Inspired by her critically acclaimed and commercial hit album from 2001, Mountain Soul, comes the long-awaited follow up to one of Patty Loveless's best-loved albums. In Mountain Soul II Patty's Kentucky roots shine through like a breath of fresh air, featuring her crystalline country vocals amid bluegrass-tinged accompaniment. Patty is surrounded by a stellar supporting cast, including country and bluegrass legends Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Al Perkins, and Del and Ronnie McCoury, making Mountain Soul II completely authentic and a true listening pleasure.

Customer Rating: Summary: This CD is a wonderful addition to her impressive output Comment: First of all, I must get something out of the way concerning some of the unjustified negative reviews.
I think it's utterly ridiculous that some of the responses here are complaining about the 3 religious songs on this wonderful CD. I am not a religious person, but I have a broad enough mind to accept and judge the music and vocals first and foremost, and not let a narrow mind effect that judgment. Some anti-religious people have become so aggressive with making statements against any and all religions that they don't realize how silly they appear when they do it. Sadly, they have been conditioned into thinking their STRONG opinions really matter, and then too blind to realize their constant anti-rants puts them on par with the true, militantly religious nuts.
How wrong and shallow to say that Patty Loveless is "shoving" these songs in your faces. I really don't think Loveless twisted your arms and made you purchase this CD.
Here's another angle to point out how silly your remarks against the religious songs are, so try looking at it this way..... ...I don't practice or support drug use, alcoholism, prostitution, adultery or physical fighting, but, if a great song is written about any of these subjects, wouldn't it be foolish not to listen to them or criticize them because "I'm not a member" ? Yes, it would. And yes, there have been many superb songs concerning these subjects since the very beginning of 'popular music,' and there have been many superb religious songs as well, in which Patty Loveless has certainly contributed.
Bottom line:
A huge thanks to Patty Loveless for keeping country music so real for so long and actually improving like a fine bottle of wine. MS II is yet another astonishing CD in your long list of many. Your voice is stunning, your attitude is priceless, your selections and arrangements are impeccable, and your genuine mountain soul is a national treasure. I'm already looking forward to your next release, religious songs and all !
Bar none, you are simply the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline and I appreciate your tremendous efforts.
Customer Rating: Summary: Patty Loveless Mountain Soul 11 Comment: This CD was good, but not as good as the first one, Mountain Soul. I would recommend it if you like Patty Loveless and/or Bluegrass/Mountain music. Her raw, rugged voice is great.
Customer Rating: Summary: Mountain Soul II Comment: I'm not a Country Music fan (contemoporary, that is)--This album combines bluegrass (a favorite) and old time contry--it's great! I do recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: More Goodness From A True Coal Miner's Daughter Comment: I'll keep it short and to the point: If you know Mountain Soul, this second effort will be quite nice, too. It's a little "different" in some ways, but every bit as good.
Customer Rating: Summary: I'm so disappointed Comment: Mountain Soul is one of my favorite cd's. When I found out that Patty had recorded Mountain Soul II, I was thrilled. I ordered it right away. After listening to it several times, trying REALLY hard to like it, I must say that I am very disappointed. The only song I like is "Busted". The rest are just downright depressing. What a shame. For me, Patty Lovelace is much more enjoyable when she is singing an up-tempo song. Her voice is not pleasant when she sings these dreary songs. They all sound the same - except of course for the abysmal acappela "Abraham".
