Customer Rating: Summary: Wait for the patch... Comment: First a qualifier: I've been playing The Sims on PC since its inception. That said, I owned all of the EPs for Sims 1 and 2 and now Sims 3. I bought World Adventures on launch date and spent the next 10 hours struggling to play it. Before I could play it, I was advised that I had to install the new patch from EA so I did that at the same time. Now I'm not sure if it's the game, or the patch, but 90% of the houses I'd built and the families I'd created and raised were deleted by the addition of this EP. Additionally I am unable to save my progress due to "error 16" which seems to have affected everyone. EA has now released a patch to address that particular issue, however they have not come up with a resolution yet for the numerous other issues...
Aside from the households being deleted, there is also an obvious problem with my sims no longer being able to interact with each other. So they can't chat, tell jokes, get to know each other, flirt, "woohoo", or anything else that would require social interaction. Which means essentially, that until they patch this game, your sims will die out because you won't be able to form relationships that lead to child bearing.
There are other minor inconveniences such as inventories being deleted, reward objects no longer working and needing to be deleted, etc... My advice is too not buy the game right now. Wait until it's been fixed so that you don't have to endure the frustration of a virtually unplayable game.
On a more positive note, the scenary in the new locations are breathtaking and the game offers some fun new skills to build, but once again you can't really interact with anyone so all you can do is try to complete the missions.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pretty fun game Comment: I have been playing the game for a day now and I think it is a big step up from just playing The Sims 3. I love the adventures and while I haven't played all of the adventures yet I know they will keep me entertained for quite a while. It's true that World Adventures does not come with a lot of building items or anything that most simmers would like(sure there are quite a few new outfits, accessories, a few hairstyles and some new makeup but I think the purpose of the game is the traveling part and the adventures not the stuff that comes with the game. I look forward to playing all the adventures and seeing what new things World Adventures has to offer for my sims.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Best Sims Expasion Pack Ever Comment: The Sims 3 team has really made a statement with this Expansion pack. This EP is one of the mose creative to date-- of course my opinion.
You can take your sims to "Sim-Inspired" places: Egypt, China, and France.
Explore Tombs, Collect Gems and Fish, and Help out the locals.
The Sims 3: World Adventures is an amazing Expansion pack; the lands are amazing to travel to, although you are limited by your sims visa level, which gradually improves from a 3 day stay in any location, to a 12 day stay depending on if your sim accepted quest from the Adventure Board.
Overall, This game is very good.
4.5/5
Customer Rating: Summary: I like it but it IS buggy Comment: Got mine yesterday and played most of the day. You have to give the game a chance and play it for any significant length of time before deciding on whether or not you like it, simply because there IS a lot to do, only you have to do a lot of vacationing in order to do it. There's lots of hidden things that take exploring to find. LOTS of stuff to collect (money, gold, gems, relics, and more)! Lots to do (Quests, challenges, and more)! Lots of new stuff for your Sim to learn! This EP is more like a game within itself because you have to do certain things in order to get other certain things to work in order to proceed forward on your challenges.
I don't want to go into detail on what all is offered in the game because it would just spoil the surprises for everybody else who hasn't played it yet. Suffice it to say, I like it and I'm glad I got it. I think it was well worth the money. There really is a lot to do in the game, you just have to explore, look, do a lot of traveling, and be willing to do the challenges.
Also, there are bugs and glitches in the game. I've found some stuff I had purchased in France didn't make it into my inventory/backpack (the nectar rack), and one of the new bookshelves doesn't work...you can open the bookcase and add books but when you select 'read' or 'read something' the new books don't appear on the list for you to read. However, if you open the bookcase again they show up. I'm also getting thick green 'streaks' that come down from the top of the screen at an angle and end on the object (for lack of a better way to explain it) whenever I try to move objects or furniture. I don't have ANY custom content, never have. I can't delete any furniture now either for some reason..once its bought, I'm stuck with it unless a burglar comes and steals it (which happened to my old crappy bathtub luckily so I was able to get a new one to put in its place). Hopefully a patch will come out soon, but in the meantime it's not detracting from my fun of playing the game in any way, so I gave it a five star rating.
I personally feel that this is a must have EP. It really expands your Sims' world. There are even PUZZLES in the game that YOU have to figure out (albeit somewhat easy for an adult) in order for your Sim to go forward on their quests and challenges. If you get bored after only playing for a half hour, that's your own fault, you didn't play long enough to give the game a chance, nor could you have done much exploring to find the fun stuff.
I'm happy......now just need the patch so I can be even happier..lol.
Overall, very pleased.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not 100% what I had hoped for; but pretty dang close. Comment: I own every single Sims game, and had owned all of the Sim City series as well. With that said, let's move on to the review of EA's latest product, The Sims 3: World Adventures. I had high anticipation because I am used to the massive amounts of new things we got with the Sims 1 & Sims 2 expansions, which were offered at much lower costs. However, do not let this deter you. While you may not get a ton of new items, you do get adventure as promised. The pros:
1. You do get to travel, and there are goals when you do so. I didn't care for the way the Sims 2: Bon Voyage, didn't really give you a goal. It was go to a new place, relax, stay for a huge amount of time and leave. World Adventures gives you goals, while allowing you to visit various places if you would like. And in time you can buy a vacation home and spend more time there. You have to build up your "visa" to have stays longer than 3 days in each location, and you do this by completing adventures. I had a great time wandering around the maze like tombs, and avoiding torching myself.
2. There are indeed a few more items, and they have country themes. In the past few games we have really only had Asian oriented items; I love decorating the house with flaming chandeliers like the ones seen in the tombs.
3. I have not found all of the new social interactions, but so far there have been about three.
4. Basements! Yes you heard right, you can actually have basements to your house now; not only that but you can build "tombs" under your home.
5. A few new traits and music tastes.
6. Your sim, when they learn a new song, may come home singing- which I find very cute.
Cons:
1. As with any EA game that just came out, there are glitches. The first time I started up, my sim was no where to be found. The plumbob was deformed and I couldn't preform any actions. I uninstalled it, the problem still remained. So I uninstalled the base game; that fixed that problem. Then I couldn't get skills or buy skill books. This was apparently a conflict between the new patch (that is required it seems.) and game mods and some custom content. I removed by mods and custom content; now the game runs like a charm.
2. The loading time is much longer than with The Sims 3 base game. I have plenty of memory, a new graphics card and plenty of RAM. I am above the required specs with everything, but only slightly. If you are working with the bare minimums or just a little above, it may run a little slower.
3. I have noticed (it may be my computer) that some of the graphics are not as clear, such as a blurry pixelation of my sims eye sockets.
4. Still no memories.
5. Some of the new features have been hard for me to find, such as the collection for photographs (which is a nice new bonus).
6. Toddlers & pregnant women cannot travel. I assume this is because it would be unsafe for them to be caught on fire, but it still stinks leaving them home.
7. Some people have been having a lot more problems, such as the game not loading, codes not working and games not saving. I have personally not had any of these problems.
I will update this as I continue to play; but so far the adventures have made getting the game worth it. I really enjoy having the goals and feeling like I'm achieving something for my sim.
