Editorial Reviews:

Norah has taken a new direction on the The Fall, experimenting with different sounds and a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a noted producer and engineer who has worked with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits and Modest Mouse. Jones enlisted several songwriting collaborators, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River's Will Sheff, as well as her frequent partners Jesse Harris & Richard Julian. Musicians include drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer). The first single/video is for the album's lead track 'Chasing Pirates'.

Summary: Norah Jones: The Fall
Comment: Coincidentally, Norah Jones and John Mayer both host debuts in the same week
Both John Mayer and Norah Jones have gone off different path in their typical music
But Norah Jones wins out with her movement

With the debut work "Come Away With Me" and follow up "Feels Like Home" display jazz with country-genes masterpieces. It was heavy on the grand piano, her sultry/airy vocals and the suttle band backdrop that creates amazing music. Its albums that jerks the heart and can make grown men cry.

Her recent work on "Not Too Late" was all suttle changes from her norm. It was no longer all lovey-dubby songs (some songs politcally driven). It was not all grand piano (Yes, she plays guitar as well). She is writing/co-writing her lyrics. A little-big factor, it had a sense of being relaxed (little bit of fun to it). It was a great piece of work and still listenable. Norah seemed to no longer take it so serious; a movement is coming.

Her newest work, "The Fall", Norah Jones really broke out of her shell. The Grand piano and traditional back drop was nearly all lost - for a rock influenced conglomerate off keyboards and stomp effects. She has basically taken over for song writing. It still has her vocals piping away softly, but the sound is relaxed completely. This is a FUN album. The first song alone is precursor to what is to be an experience unlike any other. Does not matter if end up repeating the album or specific songs - its all grand with Norah Jones and her new album "the Fall".

Summary: No, no, Norah
Comment: This album was a disappointment. The bass and drums dominated and my ears hurt trying to listen to her voice over the noise. It would have been just as effective if she had phoned in her track as it was a lackluster performance. This was another mistake in trying to change her style as with the Peter Malick group featuring Norah. When I purchase a performer's album, I expect to hear that particular person's talent, not the support talent. The piano was her forte and suits her voice style much better. If I had wanted rock with overwhelming thumping "with a good beat and you can dance to it" this might have been a good choice but her voice was lost on this latest effort. What happened to the clever songs and great arrangements of previous works? If her next album is handled by the same person I won't waste my time or money on it.

Summary: Excellent Departure!
Comment: This is not your fathers Nora Jones! More up tempo and guitars than her prior releases. I have to say I like it and it does still have some slow stuff like "Back to Manhattan".

You can actually play this on a Friday night though! Way to get out of your box Nora!

Awesome vocals from Nora, as always!

Summary: rediscover this beauty
Comment: this album is awesome..from the first song to last. i have to admit i was lost w/her last 2 albums...but this one brings her back to my A-list. if you like the soundtrack "my blueberry nights" this is album is an extension of that cool and collective sassy genre. good job missy jones.

Summary: Some fans just don't evolve
Comment: In Norah's latest effort, so has continued the trend from her last album, drifting away from the sultry piano jazz she became famous for, and dabbling with various genre's of music and guest musicians. Her album will not disappoint the casual listener, and for those that love her voice, it's still there and never hidden behind any musical interludes.

Where I feel she falls flat is in the lack of depth her music holds. "Come Away With Me" was a album full of emotion and soul; something to drink a bottle of wine with a loved one or by yourself too. This album, while lyrically emotional, lacks the intimacy one might wish from Norah's past. I myself have a difficult time evolving when bands dabble in other genres -- and consequently fall in love with bands when they strike a correct nerve after failing.

This album will no doubt win Grammy's, but for those that except another Come Away with Me, you may want to hold off purchasing this album.
