Weighing less than 4lbs and measuring less than an inch thin, the new ASUS UL30A is a harmonious blend of form and function. Powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo ultra-low voltage processor, it boasts an impressive 16-hour battery life for all-day computing. It also sports user-centric features such as a multi-gesture touchpad and provides an impressive multimedia entertainment experience with Altec Lansing speakers and SRS Premium Sound. All of these features and more are shrouded in a robust brushed aluminum lid that not only looks magnificent, but also helps in maintaining the notebook’s stylish exterior day after day. ASUS notebooks come with ASUS’ 360 service program that includes a 2 year global warranty, one month zero bright dot guaranty, free two-way shipping and twenty-four hour tech support seven days a week. Plus it comes with a FREE One Year Accidental Damage Warranty protecting your notebook from drops, fire, spills and surges.

Spotlight customer reviews:
|
Customer Rating: Summary: Very nice laptop Comment: I received this item 2 days ago, after a long wait....
I agree with most of the previous reviews with few issues of my own
Pros:
- battery life: I have it set on "entertainment mode" and I got about ~8.5hrs of intermittent, but mostly continuous use. (brightness set to 30-40%, wifi running)
- design
- keyboard
- speed
- size
Cons:
- location of power jack (when I use it sitting in bed with my legs crossed, the part of the power cord that connects to the computer is resting on my right thigh and it is the most annoying thing in the world!!!!)
- touch pad (like everyone else...multi-touch seems very sensitive--I'm sure there is a way to adjust though)
- battery saving mode on Win 7 (I'm not sure if anyyone else's used this mode, but it looks horrible...)
There is a lot of chatter about the wifi issue at other forums, where people are complaining about dropped connections. During my battery test run, I was able to surf the web without any connection problems. I have Trendnet N router in my living room and I was able to get 4 bars from my bedroom (~30-35 feet) without any interruption. I was able to stream videos on HD without too much problems. I was also able to pick up my neighbor's
Customer Rating: Summary: Lightweight, good machine, good value - happy customer Comment: Pros:
+ battery life
+ lightweight
+ keyboard
+ bright screen
+ decent volume from speakers
+ Windows 7
Cons:
- screen glare
So far, so good. I bought this laptop based on the reviews from other Amazon users. So far, no problems. I've had it for a week now. I've used it for showing videos, doing Excel sheets, web gaming and photographs. Doing a great job.
It took a number of entries on the "smart logon" system before it actually started auto logging on. I assumed using it the first time was good enough. I had to select the little arrow on the left side of the live picture and type in my password for five or so log ins before it started recognizing me. Now it logs me in regularly.
If the warranty card is sent in (which I still need to do) they state they double the accidental damage warranty.
Customer Rating: Summary: Long Battery Life Comment: This laptop's battery life is truly stunning! I consistently get over 12 hours of battery life with this thing. I treat it almost like a cellphone now; charging it every few days. The low voltage Core 2 Duo processor is just fine for everything from web-surfing, watching streaming video, and writing documents to some more intense applications such as web development, application development, and some light Photoshop.
I went with this laptop over the ASUS UL30A-X5 because this laptop has a larger 5600mAh battery. The ASUS UL30A-X5 has a 4400mAh battery which means it has a lower capacity.
Customer Rating: Summary: nice portable-iffy touchpad Comment: If your looking at this machine its because you want something thin and light. It meets those requirements and its well made. Its fast, has plenty of storage and the battery life is great (though I'd say closer to 8 hours of solid computing as apposed to 10).
The Cons:
The touchpad is typical ASUS trash. I hit it whenever I'm cranking out an email, a word doc, whatever, its just not very good. Also its hard to scroll well/fast and I've played with all of the settings as well. I'd wouldn't call it a deal breaker, but it would rank as a serious annoyance.
Customer Rating: Summary: Met all expectations Comment: I've been working with computers for over 30 years. This is the first computer of any sort that met and I will expect exceed all of my expetations (over time). It is the perfect computer for doing MS Office type work, emailing documents back and forth, and internet use. It's nice and fast, great display, no issues with the key board, and set up was not that difficult. I have a very capabile desktop and did not need to duplicate what I already had. This is the PERFECT machine for getting work done and keeping in touch with email. Now if it keeps working for a few years, ASUS would have hit a huge home-run.
